Calls for Cork prison to become homeless shelter

The new prison Leeside is expected to open next month.
Calls are being made to transform the grounds of Cork prison into a homeless shelter.
It comes as the Irish Prison Service prepares to move staff and inmates into a new €40 million facility adjacent to the current prison.
RedFM News recently learned that there are currently no plans for the site on Rathmore Road once it's decommissioned on February 12th.
St Vincent de Paul says it intends to meet with government officials in a bid to propose the takeover idea.
Speaking to Cork's RedFM Brendan Dempsey of St Vincent de Paul says it's a great opportunity to help house homeless people Leeside.
