Calls for customs clearance at Cork Airport

It comes on foot of the announcement of a Cork to Boston route next May


It's hoped that Cork Airport will be able to put a US pre-clearance facility in place to prevent lengthy delays for passengers availing of the new Cork-Boston and Cork-New York airlinks which were announced last week.

US bound passengers from Cork will currently have to undertake all immigration, customs and agriculture inspections at Boston and New York airports which it's understood could take up to three hours. 

Shannon operates a pre-clearance facility and approximately 30 US customs officials are based at Dublin Airport's facility which prevents delays on the other side - something which it's feared could threaten the success of the new transatlantic flights operating Leeside.

However speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show managing director at Cork Airport Niall McCarthy says the Cork US flights will be keenly priced and this will be the deciding factor for passengers:
