Cork County Council is calling on the Government to release almost €12 million in emergency funding.

Cork County Council is calling on the Government to release almost €12 million in emergency funding to fix roads which have been battered by Storm Frank.

It's expected the funding won't cover the full cost of damage to the county as it doesn't account for include the cost of repairs to the county’s national roads, harbours, local authority houses and roads which are still underwater.

Skibbereen and Midleton were some of the worst hit areas in the country and it's understood funding to the tune of €3.6 million will be needed for repairs in both towns. 

Meanwhile Cork County Council have confirmed they're in talks with Inland Fisheries Ireland who recently said it wouldn't sanction emergency dredging works in towns where the OPW have planned flood relief schemes.

The decision has been met with opposition amid fears that further flooding damage will be done before flood defences are installed.
