Calls for independent review of the Help-to-Buy Scheme to be carried out

New CSO figures show an 11% rise in the cost of a home nationally in the year to February
Fianna Fail's spokesperson on Housing Barry Cowen is calling for an independent review of the Help-to-Buy Scheme to be carried out.
His comments come after the Central Statistics Office released new figures which show that residential property prices recorded their fastest growth in almost two years.
The average house price in Cork City now stands at €257,000 compared to a national average of €245,000.
Deputy Cowen says when the scheme was first introduced he had concerns that it would lead to a rapid increase in house prices unless the Government took steps to increase housing supply.
But he says that hasn't happened.
