Celebrations at Dublin Castle for 1st anniversary of Marriage Equality in Ireland

Hundreds of people gathered at Dublin Castle, to mark the 1st anniversary of the referendum for Marriage Equality.
The referendum was passed with 62% voting Yes for same-sex marriage.
In 2006, Katherine Zappone and her wife Ann Louise Gilligan unsuccessfully took a case to the High Court for their Canadian marriage to be recognised by Irish law.
The case became one of first major events in the debate on same-sex marriage in Ireland.
Katherine Zappone now Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, says the long fight for equal recognition of their marriage was worth it in the end:
