Chair of controlled drinking campaign speaks out about alcohol companies involvement

The chair of the 'Stop Out of Control Drinking' campaign says if drinks companies are willing to be part of the solution to alcohol abuse it should be capitalised on. The campaign which has been organised to curb the amount of people drinking to excess will host two workshops in the city tonight . It comes after Diageo withdrew from the board of the campaign yesterday amid controversy about the campaign's independence with the involvement of the drinks company. Over 300 individuals and organisations have so far signed an open letter opposing what they call a 'smokscreen' initiative funded by Diageo to distract attention away from the company's marketing and opposition to alcohol harm reduction policies. Speaking to RedFM News chair of the campaign Fergus Finlay says the funding by Diageo for this initiative can make a difference. Click the PLAY button to hear.
