Chair of some Council committees receiving payment despite few meetings

6 thousand euro annual payment is being awarded to the chair of some Cork City Council committees.
It's emerged that some of the special committees in Cork City Council have only met once despite a €6,000 annual payment being awarded to the chair of each committee.
Cllr Kenneth O'Flynn has now written to the Minister for the Environment and the chairman of the Public Accounts to launch an investigation.
However the chair the Environment and Recreation committee, which held no official meetings, has defended his role and says there were delays in getting his committee up and running due to new regulations.
When asked on the Neil Prendeville Show whether or not he should refund the €6,000 payment Cllr Terry Shannon said plans are in place for the coming year to hold more than the required amount of meetings and outlined some of the other responsibilities of his role as chair.
