Charity Says Stealing From Recycling Bins Is One Of Their Biggest Challenges

St Vincent de Paul say they have lost up to €1 million euro in the past few years


Stealing from recycling bins is one of the biggest difficulties facing the Cork branch of St. Vincent De Paul.

The charity say they have lost up to €1 million euro in the past few years because of the theft of donated items from recycling centers across Cork city and county.

The SVP say they have had to change the design of their clothes banks by changing all the locks on the bins at a huge cost to the charity 

The measures are an effort to prevent the stolen clothes being shipped out of the country where they are sold for thousands of euro.

Speaking to RedFM News SVP's Brendan Dempsey says the theft of clothing is preventing the charity from spending more on those in need:
