City Council outlines strategy to improve city centre

Cork City Council has outlined its strategy to improve the city centre. Among the features of the new Action Plan is the development of a new office district around Parnell Place and the pedestrianisation of Patrick Street. Ongoing work to improve the city centre also include the Painting Grant Scheme to enhance historic buildings, a grant for buildings at risk of dereliction, and tourism development initiatives such as the revamp of Elizabeth Fort and the National Dispora Centre. The rejuvenation plan is in response to complaints from traders that the city centre is being left behind while suburban areas increase in popularity.
