Complaints about rent hikes soar as reports rental market in Cork putting people off locating here

New figures show complaints about rent hikes have gone up 160%.

Since the introduction of rent pressure zones last Christmas, the Residential Tenancies Board says they've been inundated with calls - approximately 1,000 a day.

The new rules are supposed to limit landlords to a 4 per cent annual rent increase in areas where the prices have been soaring.

But the latest figures show disputes over rents have more than trebled, with three-quarters of all cases decided in favour of the tenants.

It's emerged that the rental market in Cork is deterring people from locating Leeside. 

Jeremy Murphy & Associates has revealed to RedFM News that the lack of supply in Cork is leading to desperation among potential tenants. 

Average rents in the city have increased by almost 7% in the past year and 11% in the county which is further exasperating the sitaution.
