Concerns expressed over fatality numbers on Cork roads

It follows a call from the Road Safety Authority.

Concerns have been expressed Leeside for the number of fatalities recorded on Cork roads this year.

It comes after the Road Safety Authority called for increased vigilance following carnage on the roads this weekend where five people lost their lives in three separate accidents.

Nationally 82 people have lost their lives on the country's roads that's down 21 on last year's figures.

However Cork statistics are bucking the trend where eight fatalities have been recorded - that's one more road death than this time last year.

Speaking to RedFM News Brian Farrell of the RSA says extra care is needed on the roads to reduce road fatalities and prevent a repeat of tragedies.
