Concerns expressed over the impact of new Cork town

The comments come as the public exhibition for the scheme was officially launched today.

Fears that the planned town of Monard will threaten ongoing flood prevention works in Blackpool are among the concerns that will be discussed today at a public meeting on the new Flood Relief Scheme for the town.

The public exhibition for the scheme was officially launched today and coincides with the beginning of an oral hearing by An Bord Pleanála into the proposed town of Monard.

RedFM News has learned that the County Council has plans to carry out a flood risk assessment for the town if it gets the green light.

Speaking to RedFM News engineer with the Office of the Public Works Ezra McMenamin says if Monard goes ahead a flood risk assessment will take Blackpool into account.
