It follows two recent incidents where it too up to an hour for an ambulance to arrive to unconscious patients who were within walking distance of the Cork University Hospital.

Callers at one of the secenes were told the ambulance had to come from Fermoy.

The National Ambulance Service has a target arrival time of 19 minutes, but according to figures released by the NAS only 1 in 4 non life threatening call outs are being reached within this target.

Calls have been made for an extra 752 staff to be recruited and 72 extra ambulances to be made available to the Ambulance service.
