Concern expressed for future of North Main Street

Concerns have been expressed after staff at the Dunnes Stores branch in the street's shopping centre were officially briefed on the closure of the store.

Concern has been expressed for the future of North Main Street after staff at the Dunnes Stores branch in the street's shopping centre were officially briefed on the closure of the store yesterday.

Workers have been told that there will be no job losses as they're being redeployed to other stores when the branch shuts down on May 21st.

After being contacted by RedFM News yesterday the trade union which represents staff said they were looking into the situation.

SIPTU have since said they were unaware of the closure prior to reports by local media and they have hit out at Dunnes Stores for its lack of communication.

They're due to meet with staff today to ensure redeployment plans and negotiate redundancy packages in their absence.

Meanwhile concern has been expressed by local traders on the street who say footfall will be affected by a number of recent closures on the street.
