Connaught Avenue residents protest against student house parties
Connaught Avenue residents are the latest to protest against student house parties in the area around UCC
Residents from Magazine Road and the surrounding area have already held a number of demonstrations in the past week after scores of students moved into houses around College Road recently.
Locals say the house parties start in the afternoon and continue into the early hours and are calling on landlords not to rent to students, many of whom are said to be ignoring social distancing guidelines.
Speaking to RedFM News, Connaught Avenue resident Mairead says residents will continue their protest until the parties are stopped.
"They're saying they're working, they're back for the summer and they've nothing to do, I've spoken to some of them and they said there's nothing to do at home, then they pretend they're working here - then why can't they work from home?
'They're coming from all parts of Cork, outside Cork, and they're allowed to move because they're saying this is their address.
"There were seven Garda squad cars one night on College Road because of the ongoing partying.
"They all left in March, and they returned in May."
