Construction Not Expected To Start Until Next Year On Morrison's Island Flood Defence Project

The €6 million plans have hit a stumbling block after a recent European Court of Justice ruling
Construction isn't expected to start until the middle of next year on the Morrison's Island Flood-defence project.
The €6 million plans have hit a stumbling block after a recent European Court of Justice ruling which now requires the local authority to carry out a new screening process.
Cork City Council says the original report was carried out a month before the ruling and at the time was in full compliance with all existing procedures.
The plans have proved controversial with opponents such as The Save Cork City group expressing concern about the impact of raised quay walls on the historic fabric of the city. They're now calling for a meeting with the Chief Executive.
The loss of car parking spaces on the quay to facilitate the redevelopment of the area was also met with opposition.
However speaking to RedFM News Director of Services at Cork City Council David Joyce says he doesn't believe that will be an issue this time around, and he says while a new appropriate assessment will be carried out the plans won't be altered:
