Cork Airport facing extended closure due to the rebuilding of the main runway

Work is due to start in September on the multi-million euro project and run for around three months.

The Irish Examiner reports the facility will be closed to all fixed-wing aircraft, however the works aren't due to affect the operations of air ambulances and other emergency services based at the airport.

The news comes just days after Ryanair announced it would be keeping it's Cork base closed until at least winter this year.

The airline criticised the airport's decision to 'dig up' the runway as 'crazy'.
