Cork braced as gale force winds batter the county

A flood warning from Met Éireann came into force Leeside in the early hours of this morning

Motorists are advised to drive with extreme caution this morning as heavy rain and gale force winds continue to batter the county.

A flood warning from Met Éireann came into force Leeside in the early hours of this morning and a Status Yellow wind warning is also in place for the entire country - with gusts of 110 kilometres per hour expected.

Surface water is being reported in the following areas;  

On the road from mallow to mitchelstown,
On the road between Conna and Rathcormac - particularly at the junction to Castlelyons,
On the Macroom to Cork road in the Lissarda area,
At  Aherla,
Just outside bandon on the innishannon side
Between Glanworth and Mallow via Castletownroche
On the Carrignavar to Whitechurch road
Between the finger post roundabout and Dunnes Stores entrance on Rochestown road.

Debris is also being reported across the city and county and trees down in the following areas;

In Aherla village, on the Curraghkippane graveyard road which is now impassable,
On the road behind the Island Gate, Glounthaune,
On the New Line Road, Glanmire.

Elsewhere gardaí are monitoring the river Lee this morning which is now at risk of flooding.
