Cork charity appeals for people to avoid illegal money lenders this Christmas

It's been revealed that illegal money lenders have been charging up to 400% per quarter for term loans

A Cork charity has urged people to avoid illegal money lenders this Christmas. 

The charity says that families are under increasing pressure at Christmas time and Leeside they have received over 5,000 orders for Christmas hampers. 

It's estimated that illegal moneylenders have been charging up to 400% per quarter for term loans.

Speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show on Cork's RedFM Brendan Dempsey of St Vincent de Paul says he has had personal experience with an illegal money lender when a debt couldn't be paid back.
