Cork City & County Under Fire Over Closure Of Laneway On The City's Northside
Residents in a Mayfield housing estate say they feel abandoned by both Cork City and County Council.
They were speaking in the wake of a serious assault and robbery of a woman in a laneway at Barnavara Crescent on Wednesday night.
The alleyway has been the subject of heated debate over the past few years, with many calling for it to be closed permanently
As a result of anti-social behaviour gates were erected on the laneway which straddles the control of both local authorities.
Calls for the closure of the alleyway and the removal of the pedestrian bridge on the North Ring Road have intensified after Wednesday nights attack.
