Cork City Council's Flood Assessment Team Meets Ahead Of Storm Callum

Cork County Council has expressed concern about tidal flooding in Youghal, Midleton and Bantry

Cork City Council's Flood Assessment Team is meeting to review the situation ahead of the arrival of Storm Callum this evening.

Met Eireann has issued an orange weather warning for Cork and Kerry from 10pm and other coastal counties from midnight.
Gusts of up to 130 kilometres are predicted along with heavy rain.

The City Council says a tidal surge is predicted just before 8pm tonight and again tomorrow morning at 8.15am and is warning that low lying quays and streets may be hit with localised flooding

Traffic restrictions will be in place from 5pm this evening until 10am tomorrow morning on Morrisson's Island, Union Quay, Wandesford and Frenches Quay and Crosses Green

Turning to the county and concern has been expressed about flooding in Youghal, Midleton and Bantry due to tidal flooding which could hit between 7pm and 8pm tonight and again tomorrow morning between 7am - 8am. A small amount of flooding has already been  reported in Bantry following this morning's tidal surge

Aidan Weir,  Senior Engineer with the County Council, told RedFM News that high winds and tidal surges are their main concern

Conditions are expected to be extreme during busy commuter hours in the morning and people are being advised there could be debris and fallen trees or branches on the roads

Schools and business owners are being urged to keep up to date on the latest weather forecasts, decisions around school or road closures will be made locally rather than on a national basis
