Cork could be in line for up to 500 new jobs

Ikea has been targeting a site in Cork for the past year to add to its two stores in Dublin and one in Belfast.

The furniture retail giant has earmarked Carrigtwohill as a prime location for a new store in the Munster region.

Ikea has held several meetings with the Cork County manager and senior planners to outline proposals for the store.

According to a report in the Irish Examiner the company has located and approved a site in Carrigtwohill close to the rail line.

Its believed the Cork to Midleton commuter lined played a factor in their decision to locate to the region.

Although the store is not set in stone, any store to open will be subject to planning permission as well as third party appeals.
