Calls for end to Good Friday drink ban
The chair of the Cork County branch of the Vintners Federation of Ireland has called for an end to Good Friday closing.
The current licensing laws - which do not allow pubs to trade on Good Friday - have been described by some publicans as outdated and say there is no argument for keeping it in force.
Cork brought the motion to lift the Good Friday closure to Congress a number of years ago and it received a lot of support from tourist areas as it would act as a tourism boost to this area.
Speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show on Cork's RedFM Michael Farrell, chair of the Cork County VFI branch, said that people should have a choice to go to the pub on Good Friday if they choose:
