Cork County Council Are Reiterating To The Public That The MV Alta Cargo Ship In Ballycotton Is Not Secure

They are asking people not to approach it

A risk assessment of the 77-metre long vessel has found a number of potential pollutants onboard.

The 45-year-old ship washed up in the aftermath of Storm Dennis at the weekend, and is currently wedged between rocks at Ballymacotter.

Yesterday's risk assessment found a number of sealed barrels of diesel and hydraulic oil scattered throughout the ship.

It's understood Cork County Council is considering using helicopters to airlift the remaining fuel from the 55-metre ship.
