Cork County Council seek clarification on oversight group to MacKinnon report

Party leaders in the Council have written to the Housing Minister on the matter

Cork County Council are seeking urgent clarification on the role and terms of reference of the Implementation Oversight Group

The County Council has accused the Cork Local Government Implementation Oversight Group of being completely focused on the extension of the city boundary and of not being open to any alternative options.

When the report was launched in May the former Housing Minister Simon Coveney and the current Chariman of the IOG stated that the boundary indicated was "not written in stone" and that matters were open for discussion and negotiation.

This view was confirmed by the Expert Advisory Group's chairman, Jim Mackinnon, when he attended a Council meeting in July.

However today the leaders of all political parties have come together and say they feel precluded from presenting any alternative boundary alteration for consideration

Fianna Fail's Seamus McGrath told RedFM News that the formulation of a strategic plan for Cork appears to be taking a back seat.
