Cork Developer says Cork need to maintain status

A Cork developer says it's vital Cork maintains its status as Ireland's second city.

Owen O'Callahghan previously said he would consider moving his business to Dublin if a merger of Cork’s local authorities went ahead. 

The expert group tasked with publishing the Cork Local Government Review report were split three-to-two in favor of a merger and the decision triggered a judicial review by Cork City Council. 

The plans have since been shelved however the Housing Minister has indicated  the expert group's recommendation will now be carried out by a new panel of experts in a bid to find a compromise.

Speaking to RedFM News developer Owen O'Callaghan who is behind the €90 million "Navigation Square" office block on Albert Quay which was yesterday granted planning permission, says the city needs to extend its boundary but the local government structure needs to stay the same:
