Concerns raised after City Council approves Cork Film Festival bailout loan

18 councillors voted in favour of the €200,000 loan and 8 voted against
Concerns have been expressed about Cork Film Festival receiving a loan from Cork City Council.
The request for funding and the future of the festival was discussed by councillors at a meeting in City Hall last evening.
18 councillors voted in favour of the €200,000 loan and 8 voted against.
The former head of the Festival Mick Hannigan wrote to councillors urging them to arm themselves with all the facts before agreeing to the bail out.
He says people need to realise that Cork will always struggle to attract "red carpet" style stars to the city as its too costly and the Festival needs to make its mark in a different way.
Speaking to RedFM News Mick Hannigan says throwing money at the Festival in order to put it on the map will never work and instead it needs to be made culturally significant.
