Cork GAA Investigating Manner In Which 7 Old Bank Accounts Were Brought To Light

The Irish Examiner is reporting this morning that the total balance of the seven accounts was €176,000

Cork GAA's County Board, and its independent Audit and Risk Committee, are investigating the matter.

Eimear McKeown has more for RedFM News:

"The 7 bank accounts contained 176,000 euro between them and were ring-fensed for two distinct purposes, a Bord na NOg helmet and hurley scheme, and holiday funds for Cork's Senior Hurling and Football.

The Irish Examiner is reporting that some of the funds appear to have been untouched for years.

The accounts were not included in Cork GAA's annual financial statements because they were assigned for specific purposes.

There is no indication that misconduct was responsible for the funds not appearing on balance sheets and the paper reports that the sizable oversight is being put down to 'collective carelessness'.

Cork GAA are said to be satisfied 'at this point' that there are no other bank accounts containing undeclared monies.

Croke Park has been notified.
