Cork Gardaí to target heroin market
It follows an anti-heroin operation in the city
Gardaí are planning to target the heroin market in Cork after the success of a recent anti-heroin operation in the city.
23 people were arrested last week following Operation Emerson which saw undercover gardaí travel from Dublin posing as heroin addicts.
A senior Cork garda yesterday told a Cork City Joint Policing Committee meeting that while while many of those arrested in the operation will stand trial in the Circuit Criminal Court, the problem of heroin will remain.
Cork City Coroner Dr Myra Cullinane recently revealed that the majority of heroin users in the city died from overdoses of a cocktail of drugs over the past decade.
Speaking to RedFM News community drugs worker with the Hillgrove outreach project in Faranree, Ailish McDonald, says from her experience drug users Leeside normally abuse several drugs.
