Cork left out of pilot flood defence scheme

It is set to be piloted in towns in Kilkenny and Mayo.
Cork has been excluded from a pilot flood defence scheme which is being rolled out in different parts of the country.
Calls were made by Cork Business Association for the area's inclusion in the pilot scheme as a matter of urgency.
However, towns in Kilkenny and Mayo are set to be surveyed instead and it's understood that traders may be assisted with interim flood defences while large scale works are being carried out.
The question of flood insurance for property owners in high risk areas was raised in the Dáil today as the follow up meeting between the insurance industry and government ministers failed to take place as planned.
Speaking to Cork's RedFM, Jer Buckley of the National Forum of Community Flood Committees in Blackpool says the government are not doing enough.
