Cork Lord Mayor Says Decision To Open Book Of Condolence For Martin McGuinness Is A Civic One

The decision to open a book of Condolence for the late Martin McGuinness is purely a civic one.

That's according to the Cllr Des Cahill who says the position of Lord Mayor is apolitical, and anyone in Cork who wishes to sign the book should be afforded the opportunity to do so.

The Former Northern Ireland Deputy First Minister died following a short illness and his funeral will take place tomorrow in his native Derry while the Irish flag will fly at half mast at Leinster House tomorrow as Mr McGuinness is laid to rest.

The book of Condolence will be opened this morning in The Atrium of the City Hall (9am) and will remain open for one week.

Speaking to RedFM News Lord Mayor of Cork Cllr Des Cahill says the decision was made in the context of the contribution Minister McGuinness made to the advancement of peace in Northern Ireland:
