Cork Man Faces Jail Sentence In U.S. Today

A Cork man faces a jail sentence in the US unless he agrees to leave the country today.

Keith Byrne from Fermoy entered the the country in 2007, but overstayed his visa after meeting his future wife.

He was arrested last week by immigration officers and is currently in their custody.

The 37-year-old faces up to four years in prison if he doesn't agree to leave the States by today.

Fianna Fáil's foreign affairs spokesman, Niall Collins, says the Irish government should do more to help.
