Cork mother campaigning for medicinal cannabis travels abroad to access medicine

Vera Twomey who has been campaigning for medicinal cannabis for her seven-year-old daughter says the Health Minister has let her down.

Vera has taken the decision to travel abroad with her seven-year-old daughter Ava to get medicinal cannabis in a bid to ease and treat the seizures she suffers from due to a rare form of epilepsy.

The Aghabullogue woman made headlines when she walked from her Cork home to the Dáil this year in a bid to get a license for her daughter to be prescribed the drug which is illegal in Ireland.

The family intend to establish clinical evidence while abroad to show that Ava's condition has improved with the drug and from there they're hoping the drug will be granted via ministerial exemption.

Speaking to RedFM News Vera says she's disappointed the Minister Simon Harris didn't response to their meeting requests in recent weeks.
