Cork mother pleas for surgery to go ahead

It follows the cancellations of a number of surgeries Leeside.

The daughter of a Cork woman with lung cancer has made an impassioned plea for Cork University Hospital to carry out her surgery which has been deffered due to overcrowding.

It comes as all non-urgent elective surgeries have been cancelled at CUH  because of overcrowding.

Today, CUH is urging people to stay away from its Emergency Department, if possible as there are currently 48 people awaiting admission.

Last Thursday non-urgent elective surgeries were also cancelled and the HSE says the hospital has been extremely busy in recent weeks due to the recent bad weather.

Karen told Cork's RedFM that her mother's scheduled surgery was cancelled last Thursday and since then there has been no progression which is causing massive upset to her family.
