Cork Mum defends her son's "selfie"

A Cork mother has slammed the public reaction to her son's selfie photograph with collapsed cyclist Marcel Kittel. David McCarthy from Fermoy has been heavily criticised after he tweeted a picture of himself with Sunday's stage winner of the Giro d’Italia while he was on the ground at the finish line. The 19-year-old cyclist has since apologised to anyone he offended with the picture he says he thought was 'harmless'. Speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show this morning his mother Colette says the level of abuse and commentary he has been receiving has been unwarranted. She says she had to take his phone off him to keep him focussed and is urging people to think about what they write Press PLAY button above to listen to the audio
