Cork prepares to remember 1916

Hundreds expected to attend a wreath laying ceremony at the National Monument on Easter Monday
Cork is gearing up to commemorate the 1916 centenary this weekend
At the start of the year the City and County Councils unveiled their year long programme of events which will cost well in excess of three quarters of a million euro
The biggest public event in the city is the family festival on the Grand Parade on Easter Monday the highlight of which will be a wreath laying ceremony at the National Monument at 1.15pm - the time the first shots of the 1916 Rising were fired
Speaking to RedFM News the City's Lord Mayor Cllr Chris O'Leary says along with the city events lots of local communities have all come together to commemorate the 1916 centenary
