Retailers Against Smuggling Launch New Campaign At Cork Airport
Cork Retailers say the public are putting their health at risk by buying illegal cigarettes and tobacco.
A new poster campaign has been launched at Cork Airport today, warning holidaymakers against buying large quantities of counterfeit cigarettes abroad, and selling them on locally.
Retailers Against Smuggling say as well as negative repercussions for the local economy, these cigarettes pose a serious problem to people's health, as they are unregulated and the consumer doesn't know what's inside them.
Tests carried out on illegal cigarettes seized across Cork have shown traces of rat poison, lead, arsenic and asbestos.
Speaking to RedFM News Senator Jerry Buttimer says its important consumers are made aware of the risks they are taking when purchasing these tobacco products.
