Cork TD Mick Barry Reacts To No Vote For Directly Elected Mayor
The proposal was defeated Leeside today
"An arrogant proposal".
That's how Cork TD Mick Barry described the plebiscite on the directly elected Mayor.
The proposal was defeated today in both Cork and Waterford, however it Limerick voted Yes.
The margin Leeside was very narrow however with 34,347 people casting a NO vote and 33,365 people voting in favour of the proposal.
Speaking to RedFM News Cork TD Mick Barry says he believes the €130,000 salary that accompanied the job put people off:
However Fine Gael's Jerry Buttimer who campaigned for a YES vote says it's a missed opportunity:
