The newest pedestrian bridge in the city was officially opened by the city's Lord Mayor this lunchtime.
The €5 million Mary Elmes Bridge linking Merchants Quay and St Patrick's Quay will be used by up to 11,000 people every day.
Cork woman Mary Elmes has been hailed as Ireland's 'Oskar Schindler' and is credited with saving the lives of hundreds of Jewish Children during the Holocaust by hiding them in the boot of her car so they escaped the death camps.
