Council seeks legal advise on Vernon Mount House
Cork county council say they'll be seeking legal advice after councillors voted to prosecute the owners of Vernon Mount House.
The historic house was destroyed by fire during the summer and county councillors have voted to pursue legal action claiming the owner's didn't secure the protected structure.
The meeting which was held in County Hall heard that the motion was being tabled so that the local authority could send a message to owners of similar properties Leeside about the legal obligation to protect them.
Co-owner of the 18th Century building Olaf Maxwell spoke out on the Neil Prendeville Show on Cork's RedFM in the aftermath of the fire and said under planning laws he had been very restricted over the years on what could be done with the house, including any temporary works, as all work has to be Council approved.
