Councillors Meet To Discuss Proposal From County Council On Border Extension

City and County councillors must work together in order to overcome any challenges posed by the MacKinnon Review.

That's according to the County Mayor ahead of a special meeting at City Council this evening to discuss the proposed extension of the city boundary.

This is the first meeting of the city council since the county council issued their proposal on the boundary extension to the City Hall earlier this month.

The proposal included extending the city boundary to increase the population to more than 160,000 - 65,000 less than that proposed by the MacKinnon report.

The extention of the city councils area of jurisdiction would also represent a transfer of commercial rates and Local Property Tax base to the value of over €16 million.

Speaking to RedFM News County Mayor Declan Hurley says if no agreement is reached this evening, it does not bode well for the Cork region going forward:

The special meeting is due to begin at City Hall at 5.30pm.
