Counselling Offered To Defence Forces Cadets In Cork After Assault Rifles Fire In Their Direction
The Defence Forces says counselling has been offered to cadets at a training camp in North Cork after live rounds from assault rifles were mistakenly fired in their direction.
The Irish Times reports that the cadets had just undergone live fire tactical training at Kilworth Camp and when they returned shortly afterwards to clean it up shots were fired in the area by two other military personnel.
Shouts were fired to halt the firing when it was realised that a group of around 10 cadets was in the area.
It's understood the cadets were in a stated of shock and the personnel involved were offered counselling however PDFORRA, which represents soldiers, sailors and aircrew, have raised concerns about safety management in the Defence Forces in the wake of the incident.
