County Council Urged To Go Back To Drawing Board For Fresh Re-Development Plan For Passage West

The call from Sinn Fein's Donnchadh O'Laoghaire comes after it emerged that the Council returned a grant of almost €1.9 million which was ringfenced for the purchase of the dockyard in the town

The redevelopment plans hit a stumbling block in early 2019 when the dockyard was taken off the market

The Council says under the funding criteria the money could only be used for the purchase of the docks and so had to be returned when they were taken off the market

Locals are now calling for a fresh plan to be drawn up which would see the town revitalised

Speaking to RedFM News Deputy Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire says the Council must explore the use of a complusory purchase order for the dock which he says are central to the reimagination of the town:

"I think the County Council need to be drafting a master plan for that site, and looking towards potentially compulsory purchase order, buying the site afterwards to deliver that transformation of the centre of Passage."
