County Council workers vote overwhelmingly for strike and industrial action
SIPTU members in Cork County Council have voted in favour of industrial and strike action.
The dispute is a result of what they say is the refusal of management to engage with the workforce planning process, and recruit more staff to adequately deliver statutory service.
The Unions says key sections of the council dealing with road maintenance and other essential services are now seriously undermanned.
There are fears that this failure to recruit new staff is part of a larger agenda to outsource the work to private companies.
Speaking to RedFM News SIPTU organiser Con Casey says they are open to negotiate with the County council before further action is taken:
