Date For Presidential Election Confirmed

The date for the upcoming Presidential election has been confirmed.
Minister for Housing, Planning & Local Government, Eoghan Murphy, confirmed that the Presidential election will take place on Friday October 26th.
The Minister said that the formal order for the election will be signed today.
Those wishing to run for the election will have to have their nominations submitted by September 26th. Candidates must have support from four local authorites or twenty member of the Oireachtas to be included on the ballot.
Current President Michael D Higgins will be running for a second term as well as Sinn Fein putting forward a candidate. Other names such as Gavin Duffy, John Groarke, Marie Goretti Moylan and Gemma O'Doherty are in the mix.
