Deadline approaches for objections to incinerator

The Indaver facility has been met with stiff opposition from locals.
Today is the deadline for submitting objections for a proposed incinerator in Ringaskiddy.
Waste management company Indaver, has proposed a waste-to-energy facility in the harbour, which will provide electricity to the national grid.
The project has been met with stiff opposition from members of the local community with a protest march taking place in the town last week against the facility.
Indaver has moved to allay fears and says that the development is needed as Ireland needs to manage its own waste instead of exporting it.
The Cork Harbour Alliance for Safe Environment has objected to the use of the Ringaskiddy site for incineration for the past 14 years.
Chairperson of the alliance, Mary O'Leary says the local community is unanimously opposed to the plans.
