Demonstration mounted outside City Hall this evening in protest at the new bin charges regime

Last week the Taoiseach moved to allay fear and announced plans to set up a 'watchdog' to examine prices

Leo Varadkar also said the government reserves the right to intervene in the market and regulate prices if need be.

However concern has been expressed that there are not enough concessions for those who are already struggling. 

Speaking to RedFM News Sinn Féin Councillor for Cork North West Mick Nugent says there are also concerns the new measures will result in an increase in illegal dumping.
