Demonstration to get underway in Blackpool amid planned closure of a nursing home in the area
Another demonstration is planned for Blackpool this evening calling for a reversal of the decision to close a nursing home in the area
Mount Cara House on Redemption Road has capacity for 25 residents and is set to close after 30 years due to challenges posed by Covid-19
It's led to calls for the HSE to intervene amid fears for the future of residents and staff.
The Board of Mount Cara have issued a statement to RedFM News this evening and say they have worked tirelessly on the future of Mount Cara and are committed to exploring all options in relation to Mount Cara.
The statement says the Board has had constructive engagement and support from the HSE at multiple levels, HIQA and the National Treatment Purchase Fund who approve the Fair Deal Scheme. The Board have also had extensive engagement with different care providers in terms of exploring all options for Mount Cara, and continues to engage with residents, families and the wider community to explore all options that would allow for Mount Cara to continue as a care facility for the elderly.
Cork TD Thomas Gould has called on the Taoiseach to attend tonight's demonstration with a plan:
