Details of Cork's flood relief scheme put on public display

The new flood relief project for Cork city aims to defend and protect over 2,000 properties.
Details of the €140 million project have been put on public display with the construction of flood barriers due to begin next year.
The flood protection project, one of the largest ever undertaken in Ireland, will be constructed in a number of phases over a five year period.
The plan involves the use of walls and embankments, a new flood forecasting system for the River Lee and revised operating procedures for the ESB dams on the river.
Minister with Responsibility for the Office of Public Works Sean Canney told RedFM News that construction work around Morrison's Island is expected to begin early next year.
