Disruption for bus users as strike action planned

Bus passengers can expect significant disruption next month after the two main unions at Bus Éireann and Dublin Bus announced a number of days of strike action. It comes as members of SIPTU and the NBRU will go on strike on May 1st and 2nd as well as May 15th and 16th. And the NBRU says it plans a further three days of action at the end of May, as the dispute over the privatisation of 10 per cent of bus routes escalates. Bus Eireann says it's very disappointed with the decision and has urged unions to reconsider, saying it's willing to meet them at the Labour Relations Commission to discuss the situation. Minister Paschal Donohoe says he still thinks unions can accept his assurances about work and conditions - and says the strike will cause unnecessary hassle to thousands of people.
